this could be true. or you could say that an artist becomes more enclosed
in his own narrow world after time, or the artist gets so much shiny new
equipment that he loses his grip on the core of the music, the
possibilities become too great. of course, not naming any names here.

well you could always say that the first album had by far the longest
amount of time for preparation, that is to say, the first album is the
result of a lifetime of thought and experience. can you approach a second
in this way? but no, artists aren't doomed to failure after the first
release. i think people just strike lucky every so often..
